Immigration

Carolyn recognizes that this country was built on the backs of immigrants, and has always believed that legal avenues to citizenship should be made available to hardworking members of our society.  Carolyn's record is consistent, and her beliefs and positions are well known.

In 1998 she voted for a bill to increase the number of temporary visas granted to highly skilled workers, allowing contributing members of society the opportunity to achieve legal citizenship.

In 2001, she voted to extend a law allowing some immigrants to stay in the country while pursuing legal residency.

In 2004 she voted against a bill that would have allowed hospitals to deny care to illegal immigrants and deport them immediately.

Carolyn believes that while our borders must be protected, we cannot discard our values and our decency when dealing with immigration issues. There are countless hard-working immigrants who want nothing more than to be Americans, and Carolyn has fought for reasonable avenues so that those who seek it may obtain it.
