NYC Firefighters for Carolyn

Today, the Uniformed Firefighters Association (UFA) and the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) endorsed Carolyn for reelection.

Steve Cassidy, President of the UFA, and Al Hagan, President of the UFOA were joined by fellow Executive Board Members in front of Engine 44, a firehouse that Carolyn, along with other elected officials, helped save from closing.

"Congresswoman Maloney has been a staunch advocate for firefighters and public safety,” said Cassidy. “When they tried to close Engine 44 six years ago, Congresswoman Maloney was here to make sure that this firehouse remained open and we will never forget that.”

They also praised Carolyn’s leadership in the fight to secure healthcare and compensation for the 9/11 first responders. Since 2001, Carolyn has been leading the fight to address the serious health impacts of the 9/11 disaster affecting thousands of Ground Zero responders and survivors, including downtown residents and office workers. Carolyn is a co-sponsor of the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, which would provide medical monitoring and treatment to WTC responders and survivors who were exposed to toxins released at Ground Zero.

Carolyn has been applauded for standing up to the Bush Administration and demanding funding for the health monitoring and treatment of responders and survivors immediately following the 9/11 attacks.

"Carolyn Maloney has shown a keen understanding that homeland security improves fire protection,” said Hagan. “She stands up for the citizens of this neighborhood."
