Census question about citizenship was vetted by GOP operatives who wanted to cut out Latinos

Not only did the Trump administration lie about reasons for trying to add a citizenship question to the U.S. Census, but the question was vetted by Republican operatives who wanted to cut out Latinos and other minorities, new documents reveal.

The new revelations in a lengthy memo released Tuesday by Acting Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) show another gerrymandering expert was also involved.

Maloney said she was releasing the memo because the Oversight Committee is still trying to unravel whether or not the administration will sabotage the population count, and whether Congress should step in with legislation.
