32BJ SEIU voted to endorse Congress Member Carolyn Maloney for reelection in New York’s 12th Congressional District, citing her long record of fighting for working families and civil rights.
“The hardworking men and women of 32BJ are proud to endorse Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney for reelection,” said Hector Figueroa, President of 32BJ SEIU. “She has a strong, proven record of defending the rights of working families, women and immigrants. We need champions like her to stand up to the Trump administration’s cruel agenda.”
32BJ SEIU (seiu32bj.org), with its 168,000 members in 11 different states and Washington, DC, is the largest union of property service workers in the US, and represents 85,000 workers in New York.
With the Democratic Primary on June 26, Maloney has been endorsed by every City Council member, NYS Assembly member and NYS senator whose districts overlap Maloney’s New York’s 12th Congressional District, along with three citywide elected leaders: Mayor Bill de Blasio, Public Advocate Letitia James and City Comptroller Scott Stringer, all four Democratic Borough Presidents and the entire New York House Democratic delegation. In addition, Carolyn Maloney is supported by the AFL-CIO, Congressional Progressive Caucus, Emily’s List, End Citizens United, NARAL Pro-Choice America, National Organization for Women – NYC, National Women’s Political Caucus, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, Sierra Club, Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17), and more.
Maloney is a fearless fighter with a record of getting results for New Yorkers:
• Defending Access to Healthcare: Carolyn has been a staunch defender of healthcare for New Yorkers, from authoring the James Zadroga Act to provide healthcare for 9/11 first responders, to standing up against Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. She believes that every American deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare and supports Medicare for all.
• Improving Quality of Life For New Yorkers: Carolyn Maloney knows that our city’s infrastructure needs major investment, and she’s already secured over $10 billion to update our bridges and tunnels. She’s been instrumental in building the Second Avenue Subway, replacing the Kosciuszko Bridge, and repairing the L train. Now, she’s holding the MTA accountable for the upcoming closure.
• Protecting Our Families: New York families and children have a right to be safe from gun violence. Carolyn Maloney has never faltered in her fight for gun control, authoring bills to close background check loopholes and crack down on gun trafficking. After Parkland and the NRA’s response to the tragedy, she has redoubled her efforts to require universal background checks, renew the assault weapons ban and stop people on terrorist watch lists from buying a gun.
• Fighting Back Against the Trump Agenda: Maloney has been on the frontlines of investigating and working to compel the Trump administration to uphold our democratic values. She has never been afraid to stand up to the powerful— taking on the big banks to save consumers $12 billion a year.
