On Tuesday a new bill was introduced in Congress to write-off student loan debt for many medical professionals working on the front line amid the coronavirus pandemic. The bill called Student Loan Forgiveness for Frontline Health Workers Act was introduced by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.
Students who decide to go into the medical field are those with the highest debt but since they have been risking their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic and Congress are keen to assist them at this complicated time.
If this bill passes it will forgive borrowers' federal and private loans taken out to receive a medical degree and training. Maloney said there is an "obligation to ensure that they are relieved of the debt they incurred to train for this critical work."
