DEMS WANT FETAL TISSUE RESEARCH LIMITS LIFTED
Three top congressional Democrats are urging HHS to abandon its restrictions on fetal tissue use when it comes to federally supported research related to the coronavirus.
“We are concerned that ideologically motivated restrictions on federally funded research utilizing fetal tissue may be blocking efforts to develop vaccines and treatments for the 2019 novel coronavirus,” House Energy and Commerce Chair Frank Pallone, House Oversight Chair Carolyn Maloney and Senate HELP ranking member Patty Murray wrote in a letter to Secretary Alex Azar.
The administration has restricted the use of fetal tissue in research since last June. But the three Democrats are now seeking a briefing on the matter, warning continuing the policy could hinder the coronavirus response.
