WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, endorsed Carolyn Maloney for election to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District. EMILY’s List President Laphonza Butler released the following statement:
“Rep. Carolyn Maloney has been one of the most effective members in Congress since her very first term, consistently producing and fighting for bills that improve the lives and futures of New Yorkers and all Americans. Maloney has time and again proven that she has the grit and determination needed to work for justice during challenging times, and we are proud to endorse her campaign to represent the people of New York's 12th Congressional District.”
Rep. Carolyn Maloney is running for reelection to continue her fight to expand economic opportunity for all hardworking New Yorkers and to secure reproductive rights for all Americans. Maloney was first elected to Congress in 1992, where she’s consistently ranked as one of the top producers of legislation, either as stand-alone bills or incorporated into larger legislative packages. She is a national leader with accomplishments on security, financial services, the economy and women's issues, from securing health care for those suffering from ailments related to 9/11 to authoring the Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights, which, according to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), has saved consumers more than $16 billion annually since it was signed into law in 2009. Maloney has consistently been ranked as one of the most effective leaders in the House of Representatives: In 2013, she introduced the fifth highest number of bills of all representatives, and in 2015, the bills she authored had 1,202 co-sponsors — the second most in all of the House. Maloney has been a champion in Washington for women, reproductive rights, and working families for nearly three decades.
EMILY’s List, the nation’s largest resource for women in politics, has raised over $700 million to elect Democratic pro-choice women candidates. With a grassroots community of over five million members, EMILY's List helps Democratic women win competitive campaigns – across the country and up and down the ballot – by recruiting and training candidates, supporting and helping build strong campaigns, researching the issues that impact women and families, running nearly $50 million in independent expenditures in the last cycle alone, and turning out women voters and voters of color to the polls. Since our founding in 1985, we have helped elect the country's first woman as vice president, 159 women to the House, 26 to the Senate, 16 governors, and more than 1,300 women to state and local office. More than 40% of the candidates EMILY’s List has helped elect to Congress have been women of color. After the 2016 election, more than 60,000 women reached out to EMILY's List about running for office laying the groundwork for the next decade of candidates for local, state, and national offices. In our effort to elect more women in offices across the country, we have created our Run to Win program, expanded our training program, including a Training Center online, and trained thousands of women.
