New York, NY - Today, the Uniformed Fire Officers Association (UFOA) endorsed Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney for re-election to represent New York’s 12th Congressional District.
“Carolyn Maloney has been a steadfast and tireless advocate for the Uniformed Fire Officers Association for decades,” said James McCarthy, President of UFOA. “She has proven time and time again that she never gives up from a fight including passing health care and compensation for 9/11 responders and survivors and its reauthorization, both were not easily won and would have never been able to happen without Carolyn’s leadership. This legislation changed the lives of so many of our union members who were and still are sick and dying from 9/11 related cancers and diseases. Because of that and so much more, we are endorsing her for re-election so she can continue to be our fearless leader in the halls of Congress.”
“I am deeply grateful for the support from UFOA and their President James McCarthy, and for their endorsement for my reelection to Congress,” said Rep. Maloney. “UFOA was always at the forefront of the fight to get their members the health care and compensation they deserved. I have come to know so many of the UFOA members who risked their lives on 9/11, running into burning buildings to try to save as many people as possible. In the days and years since 9/11, too many of them became ill as a result of the deadly toxins they encountered at Ground Zero. UFOA members really helped change minds in Congress, helping my colleagues understand the impact of the devastating illnesses so many first responders are suffering. It has been my honor to work with the UFOA to ensure that we, as a grateful nation, help those who have become sick as a result of their heroism. I am so proud of all that we have accomplished together and look forward to many more successes to come.
