Hundreds of riled-up New Yorkers gathered outside the Trump International Hotel in Midtown to protest the Donald’s deplorable remarks about punishing women seeking abortions.
“If women could fire him right now, we would,” said Jean Bucaria, vice president of the National Organization for Women New York.
He’s backpedaling but he can’t backpedal on the idea that he doesn’t believe women’s rights matter.
The crowd broke into a chant of “our bodies, our choice” before Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) demanded an apology from Trump. “Trump’s calls to punish women is straight out of the Middle Ages,” Maloney said.
Trump sparked a firestorm Wednesday when he said there should be “some form of punishment” for women who choose to get abortions if the procedure is banned in the U.S.
The Republican front-runner backtracked minutes after making the shocking statement to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.
But the backlash continued into Thursday.
Speaking outside the hotel on Columbus Circle, Irene Sills, 65, said her abortion at age 26 saved her life.
“All three Republican candidates are equally horrendous to me,” Sills said. “But Trump doesn’t even understand the issue.”
